Folding cases have improved a lot since the first generation and more brands are making them. Still, it’s worth looking at how these cases work in real-world use. I have been using it for two days Belroy Case for Google Pixel Fold; I was surprised at how good this case is.
Bellroy is a premium accessory manufacturer that has partnered with Google for many of its previous Pixel products. From smartphone cases to laptop sleeves and more, Belroy was on board and the quality was excellent. While I wish the company’s leather cases offered more refinement over time, they were also desirable for the Pixel 6. and the Pixel 7 For its slim fit and soft hand feel. These are simply adorable cases that are worth their rather high price tag.
That’s why I was so excited when I heard that Belroy would be championing the Google Pixel Fold. Narrow smooth leather bag for my new convertible? Sign me up now.
But when I opened the box and put this case on this week, I was very disappointed.
It starts with the skin itself. As mentioned, the Belroy leather has never been my favorite, but the thickness of the leather layers is well balanced so it’s always comfortable to hold. On the Pixel Fold, the skin layer is practically a sticker – I’m sure of that Debrand’s skin is thick In a cheap plastic box. Here, porous edges were found throughout the case, and within a few days I noticed a leather peeling in the corner. i am I am not aloneAlso.
But it gets worse from there.
My main problem with this case is the fit. On the back, the case snaps into place fairly comfortably, but is a little loose where it meets the hinge area. I can live with that, but it’s the interface that really seals the deal here.
The front half of Bellroy’s Pixel Fold case borders on unused.
The hinge on the left side slips whenever I use the phone with my left hand. Every time I open the flip cover, I almost squeeze the case. And the overall fit is so loose I’m not at all sure the front half won’t fly off on the first drop. And the plastic used here is so fragile that I expect it to break within a few months of use, assuming the case is removed from time to time.
Most of this can be solved with a light glue, a method used in many cases, but none of that here. Until then, I’m not sure it will because of the super loose fit.
We reached out to Belroy for comment on the issues, and a representative told us the issue was “on purpose.” This is backed up by advice on the packaging, which urges users to “avoid pressure on the inner rim” as this “may loosen the case”.
Bellroy’s Pixel Fold Case has all the features of a bad foldable case and I highly recommend it $75 at the company’s asking price. Good idea here and I like the blue leather color used by the Belroy, but this model needs significant improvement and should be withdrawn from sale until completely redesigned.
The official silicon case from Google is still a long way off. away Best option for $60. I really wish someone could make a good leather case for the Pixel Fold, but Belroy fails miserably.
