Of course, that’s still a long way off, and that’s why it might be early enough to fill out a Pixel 8 wishlist and send it to Google. Regardless, the community is already scratching their heads over what the 2023 successor smartphones to the Pixel 7 series can do better.
Display again 6 inches or smaller
Again a small display is mentioned here. But I think the Pixel 7’s 6.3 inches can hardly be beat. Zenfone 9 remains an exception, smartphones from Google and Xiaomi will definitely not be small (less than 6 inches).
However, one desire that comes up again and again is a smaller device with full camera power. So far, Google has only offered a full triple camera with macro focus on the Pixel 7 Pro, which is actually too big for many consumers due to the 6.7-inch display. On the other hand, so much camera technology takes up a lot of space.
Samsung as a role model: the new fingerprint sensor
Let’s dedicate ourselves to realistic desires. It again includes an improvement in the fingerprint sensor. It’s better than the Pixel 7, but not top tier by any means. For this, Google has to rely on an ultrasonic module, which therefore allows detection by ultrasound. It is faster and less error-prone.
Google famously wandered between the lines with its Pro-Pixel. It’s a top of the line flagship, but not quite on par with the competition. I would put a Galaxy S22 Ultra higher in terms of hardware, which also applies to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Such a high-end fingerprint sensor would lead to a different conclusion.
Progress with the Pixel 8 is certainly realistic, in fact, related information has already appeared in Google’s source code. The fingerprint sensor on the back of the smartphone is no longer making a comeback, though it is on many wishlists.
Fast wired charging and USB-C video output: it’s almost time!
Google has always been a laggard when it comes to fast charging. 18 or later 30 watts was not enough. Samsung isn’t a role model here, but the 45W Pixel series will be a step up.
Speaking of cables, video output via USB-C is also frequently requested. To be honest, I find it practical from time to time, because unfortunately the quality of wireless transmission is often poor. What do we have USB-C if we don’t use the possibilities?
5-year guarantee for new Android updates and cloud storage for Google Photos
I also agree that Google needs to optimize its update guarantee with the next generation of Pixels. The EU may soon be able to help here anyway. I find it disrespectful when “competitors” like Samsung offer more for even cheaper Galaxy phones.
Ever since Google stopped the unlimited backup of Google Photos (for compressed quality levels), Pixel customers have been wanting it back. Regardless, I see an opportunity to retain Pixel buyers in the long run with offers like this. In my opinion, free VPN does not have this possibility.
