Blind Spot has just released new products to power your DSLR/Mirrorless camera, accessories, and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K: the Blind Spot Power Pipe Cables. These USB-C PD cables allow you to power your filmmaking equipment from affordable power banks. Let’s take a closer look at these Power Pipe cables for filmmakers on the go!
Blind Spot Power Pipe BMPCC
The Blind Spot Power Pipe BMPCC is an 18″ long USB-C PD to 2-Pin power cable that allows you to power your Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k/6K from a power bank, or even main AC with a USB-C PD plug adapter. It makes a lot of sense to use a power bank with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k or 6K as these cameras notoriously eat the Canon LP-E6 batteries they’re using.
If 18″ is too short for your needs, you can use a USB-C to USB-C extension cable.
The Power Pipe BMPCC cable retails for $45.00, and it is available now from Amazon US or Amazon UK. This type of cable is not entirely new, as similar options are already available on the market at a lower price.
Blind Spot Power Pipe 12V
The Blind Spot Power Pipe 12V is another 18″ long USB-C PD to Male 5.5mm OD, 2.5mm centre pin DC barrel power cable.
You can use this type of cables to power accessories such as monitors, wireless transmitters, wireless routers, live switchers, and so on from a power bank. Indeed, a lot of camera accessories use 12V power and feature a barrel connector.
The Power Pipe 12V is compatible with existing DC adapters if you need to power a 12V accessory that feature another kind of barrel connector.
The Power Pipe 12V cable is available now for $40.00 on Amazon US or Amazon UK. Same as the BMPCC cable, I found other alternatives already available on the market here.
Power Pipe 8.4V
Last but not least, the Blind Spot Power Pipe 8.4V allows you to power to power your DSLR/Mirrorless camera from a power bank (9V/3A minimum). The idea is to run this cable from a USB-C PD power bank into a dummy battery inside your camera.
The Power Pipe 8.4V is 8″ long and compatible with all existing dummy batteries from Blind Spot. At the moment, Blind Spot offers dummy batteries for FUJIFILM, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, and Canon cameras.
The Power Pipe 8.4V is available now for $35.00 on Amazon US or Amazon UK. Blind Spot dummy batteries are $30.00 each. I’ve not found any similar option available on the market to power your camera via a dummy battery from a USB-C power bank.
