Canon continues its push with RF mounts and introduces two new cameras, but these cameras have an APS-C sensor. The R7 and R10 are Canon’s first APS-C sensor cameras with RF mounts. The latest release includes two new lenses to go with them. The RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM And RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM.

Dual pixel CMOS AF II

Canon reports that the new APS-C R7 and R10 are designed for enthusiasts. Nevertheless, Canon’s high-performance full-frame models feature some high-performance features in cameras, such as intelligent autofocus technology. Featuring Deep Learning and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, users can keep an eye on things including vehicles, animals and people with over 100% accurate head, face and eye identification of the frame.

AF operates in low light up to -5 EV and -4 EV, respectively, and with teleconverters up to f / 22. Both cameras feature touch and drag AF, while the EOS R7 made history as the first camera in the EOS R system to have an integrated AF multi-controller and control wheel. It unlocks AF point control with quick and convenient setting and playback function in a thumb movement or rotation of dial.

The cameras have a 2.36m dot electronic viewfinder and OVF view assist. Customizable dial and a different-angle flip-out LCD screen. The EOS R7 features a high 1.15x magnification viewfinder. The EOS R10 has a built-in flash.

Along with the dual SD UHS-II card slot, the EOS R7 also supports instant backups, separate picture and movie storage, or different format recordings on each card.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Both cameras have enhanced connectivity with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can upload content to their final destination via image.canon and control the camera via the Camera Connect app, either a compatible USB Type-C cable or a wireless connection. For streamers, both cameras provide clear HDMI output for streaming and the ability to stream images to YouTube. Canon. Users can now upload RAW files directly to Image Canon’s new cloud image processing service. Canon, which uses neural network image processing to further enhance image quality from a RAW file.
Canon’s cloud image processing service is a payment service that will be launched in late July 2022. This service will require a firmware update

The EOS R7 and EOS R10 have new multi-function accessory shoes that provide strength and high-speed connectivity to advanced new accessories such as Tascam CA-XLR2d-C audio module And Canon DM-E1D microphone.

Video performance

Canon has decided to have full-size HDMI in both the EOS R7 and EOS R10. This is a significant upgrade because all Canon mirrorless cameras have micro HDMI connectors. I hope this will become a norm from now on because micro HDMI is fragile.

It is also worth noting that Canon is not crippling these APS-C cameras as much as in the past. The dual pixel AF, full-size HDMI, audio monitoring and the new multi-function accessory make the shoe look great. Includes all “enthusiastic” APS-C models.

The EOS R7 and EOS R10 can shoot video in 4K 60p or 4K 30p, which has been reduced to 7K and 6K.
The EOS R7 4K 60p shooting mode uses the full width of the sensor.
EOS R10 4K 60p shooting mode cut up to 64% of the horizontal area.

  • Bit rate only applies to video output, not audio or metadata.
  • When the audio data is set [C.Fn 4-2 Audio compression: Enable] (Audio: AAC recording).
  • When the maximum recording time of each movie is reached, the movie recording stops.
  • The sound is almost not recorded. The last two frames when the compression method for movie recording quality is IPB (standard) and the camera is set [C.Fn 4-2 Audio compression: Enable] Or IPB (Light) (Audio: AAC). Additionally, videos and sound may be out of sync while playing movies on Windows.

Both models support HDR PQ YCbCr 4: 2: 2 10-bit BT.2020 in-camera or HDMI recording. The EOS R7 has an additional 4K 60p crop mode to extend the reach – perfect for wildlife photography. EOS R7 4K 60p Crop shooting mode is selected to crop up to 55% of the horizontal area.

Both cameras can record beyond a separate 30-minute clip limit and shoot up to 4K 60p for up to an hour, opening up the possibility of capturing long-form content such as interviews and events.

For those who want to grade their pictures and get the most dynamic range, the EOS R7 is the first APS-C EOS out of the movie EOS line that includes Canon Log 3 and Movie Gamet, A more flexible version allows the editing process and camera matching. Both models support vertical recording. The EOS R7 is able to combine IBIS with optical and movie digital IS for excellent stability, and the EOS R10 uses data from optical IS integrated lenses to maximize the effects of movie digital IS.

Maximum movie continuous recording time available:

For EOS R7:

  • Normal: 6 hours.
  • High Frame Rate Movie (Full HD 120 / 100fps): 90 minutes.
  • If the internal temperature of the camera becomes too high, the recording time may decrease.
  • 4K 30p HQ: Approx. 60 minutes if starting from + 23 C.
  • 4K 60p crop: approx. 60 minutes if starting from + 23 C.

For EOS R10:

  • Normal: 2 hours.
  • High Frame Rate Movie (Full HD 120 / 100fps): 30 minutes.
  • If the internal temperature of the camera becomes too high, the recording time may decrease.
  • 4K 30p HQ: Approx. 50 minutes if starting from + 23 C.

Overheating is a problem for most hybrid cameras, and I think the R7 and R10 can have problems with long continuous recordings in warmer to warmer environments. This needs to be checked but may be a problem due to the compact size and lack of an internal fan.

Could the EOS R7 be a good B-cam for the C70?

C70 and R7

Looks like a solid cheap B-camera alternative to the EOS R7 C70 or even the EOS R5 C, especially with the ট্যাগ 1500 price tag. The Clog 3 and Cinema Gamut will be paired with two cameras.

The internal codec has not yet been mentioned, and when it will, I will update the article; However, this is something to be excited about in this price range knowing 10-bit 4: 2: 2 insiders. Hopefully, this will not be a heavy compressed codec that will require transcoding.

I think the R7 will already be a popular camera for people in the Canon ecosystem and a good choice for shooters who want to go into a hybrid capable of both still and video. An excellent format for S35 and APS-C reach. Wildlife and nature shooters will get closer to the subject when using high-quality RF lenses with crops and when using those lenses and crop sweet spots. The AF looks impressive, and it’s great that Canon doesn’t seem to have crippled it. Instead make it a selling point. I love this new Canon!
