Over time, technology advances in ways that previously seemed impossible. Although we are still far from the future that was envisioned in the last century, it was recently revealed that in China has already built the network Internet The fastest in the worldWhich will allow us to download 150 high definition movies in just one second.
That’s right, China has launched the world’s first ultra-fast Internet backbone, supporting 1.2 terabits per second of bandwidth. This has become a reality for Tsinghua University, In collaboration with China Mobile, Huawei and Cernet Corporation. The network covers more than three thousand kilometers and connects the cities of Beijing, Wuhan and Canton
The initiative is part of the government-backed Future Internet Technology Infrastructure project, better known as FITI. This backbone network is based on China’s self-developed technology. even The software and hardware used to operate it were developed in this country.
Tsinghua University spokespeople explained at a press conference that the backbone network’s central nodes are distributed across 40 universities located in 35 cities across the country. This is an achievement that is not expected to become a reality until 2025. For its part, The United States recently completed its transition to fifth-generation Internet that runs at speeds of 400 Gbps. China’s network is now three times faster, according to Wang Lei, vice president of Huawei Technologies. Tsinghua University representative Xu Mingwei compared the new Internet backbone to a high-speed train track.
Mingwei added that all the developments behind the world’s fastest internet give China more autonomy. The country’s industry typically relies on the United States and Japan to access routers and other components. However, with this proprietary network, this dependency will be a thing of the past.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Chinese government last week announced a research plan to implement a medium or high Earth orbit quantum telecommunications infrastructure. $15 billion will be invested in the project. In this way, the country will be able to cover a larger land area to send information over long distances.
It will be interesting to see how other countries like the US and Japan respond to this new achievement. On a related note, technology lets you smell movies and video games.
Editor’s note:
Undoubtedly, a great achievement that advances the internet infrastructure considerably. Although we are only talking about China at the moment, nothing denies that similar technology will be available worldwide in the future, which will be spectacular for some nations.
