Conda Strap is a new camera strap from Frii Designs. Attached to the camera’s tripod thread, with a switch of a lever it can get stiff and keep any shape. That way, it can act as a small tripod, vlogger handle, etc. The Conda Strap is now available on Kickstarter from $97.
The photography gear startup Frii Designs based in Sweeden launched its first product on Kickstarter back in 2017. The lens-carrying accessory called TriLens Holder was financed successfully. Now, Frii Designs launches a new product on Kickstarter called Conda Strap. One would have thought there is not much to reinvent on a camera strap. The Conda Strap, however, does look very interesting so let’s take a short look at its features and specs.
Conda Strap – Camera Strap and Tripod in One
The Conda Strap is basically a camera strap that features a small baseplate with a lever that attaches to the camera’s tripod thread. The neck section is dampened and made from a padded cotton blend with one smooth and one rubberized side for extra grip. The rest of the strap consists of rounded sections with ball joints.
Now comes the interesting part. The lever on the strap’s small baseplate can be switched from one side to the other making the rounded section of the strap stiff. Prior to switching the lever, the strap can be formed in any shape and it stays like that. This way, the strap can actually act as a tripod, vlogger handle, side handles for more stable filming, etc…
The construction of the Conda Strap reminded me a bit of the GorillaPod tripods from Joby but taken on the new level. It is definitely thicker than a regular camera strap, but it could be a very interesting option for traveling as in some cases you will not have to carry a tripod and other accessories.
There will be two different versions of the strap available – Conda Strap and Conda Strap Plus.
- The standard Conda Strap is suitable for light DSLRs and mirrorless cameras weighing up to 1.1kg (2.4lbs). Its length can be anywhere between 105cm (41.3″) and 150cm (59″) and the width of the neck strap is 40mm (1.57″). The weight of the standard version is 340g (0.75lbs).
- The Conda Strap Plus can support heavier DSLRs and mirrorless cameras up to 2.2kg (4.8lbs). Its length can be anywhere between 109cm (42.9″) and 150cm (59″) and the width of the neck strap is 45mm (1.77″). The weight of the plus version is 530g (1.17lbs).
The strap will fit any camera with a standard tripod thread using a knurled thumb screw, making the installation completely tool-less. According to Frii Designs, the strap has a unique length adjustment system to switch between neck and sling style.
The straps will be available in three different colors – black, titanium grey, or ruby red. They are made out of a custom made polymer, PET, and cotton.
Price and Availability
The full price for the Conda Strap will be $149 (Plus version will be $179) as it enters retail later next year. The Kickstarter price has been set to $97 ($122 for the Plus version). Shipping to the first backers is estimated to start in March 2021.
