Elias Toufexis bids farewell to his former Deuce character Adam Jensen after the next entry in development for the franchise was cancelled.
Toufexis, who plays Sam Ko in Starfield, said on the Deus Ex Reddit that he wanted to share his gratitude with the series’ community. “I wanted to come here and say thank you for this site, your wonderful messages over the years, and your continued and incredibly strong support,” the actor said.
“For Jensen, we say goodbye, but hopefully not. Maybe someone else will buy the license. Maybe we’ll make an animated series or finish the game. Elon Musk is a big fan, and I think he has some money. Someone. Ask him. do it!”
Toufexis’ words follow last week’s news that Eidos Montreal’s new Deus Ex game has been canceled by Embracer Group, leading to a series of layoffs at the studio. The actor said he’s “relatively certain” that this version won’t focus on Jensen, saying that his character’s story “feels like it’s over.” Regardless, Tufexis is still “furious” about the news and the people who lost their jobs because of it.
“Video game companies are in a weird situation right now. I hope the issue is resolved,” he wrote.

On a separate thread “Deus X has been cancelled. “That other big game I starred in and directed was canceled, a third game I starred in and directed was reworked, and now I’m starting from scratch, a whole new team,” he wrote. “The world of video games is currently a disaster zone.”
Although the actor said that he currently has several other games lined up, he hopes that they too will be canceled at some point. Tufexis didn’t elaborate on those projects, but assured fans that he still has “lots of irons in the fire.”

This year has already been a tough one for the video game industry. Companies like Microsoft, Riot and Unity have announced layoffs.
Meanwhile, GDC released its State of the Games Industry 2024 report earlier this year. It says 35 percent of game developers have been affected by layoffs in the past 12 months. Additionally, half of respondents said they are concerned that more job cuts are imminent.
