Disappointment with the Pixel 8 (Pro)'s fingerprint sensor may yet be forthcoming

Some rather bad news is circulating about the upcoming Pixel 8 smartphone. But we do not give up hope completely.

Now Google phone fans and owners will once again say that they are happy with the fingerprint sensor on their Pixel devices. But the reality is that there is a lot of room for improvement. Unfortunately, nothing will change with the Pixel 8 (Pro), the technology may remain outdated.

So far there has been no evidence of a new sensor, the only thing heard from time to time in the rumor mill is that there will be a switch to ultrasound technology. That gave hope. Now those who have already held and used the Pixel 8 in their hands say that it is probably the old sensor remains.

Further leaks show that it still has a Goodix sensor like previous Pixel smartphones.

This means that Google continues to rely on an optical fingerprint sensor. The important difference is that only 2D technology is used here, whereas ultrasound captures the finger in 3D. Older technology in Pixel cell phones is often error-prone, less secure, and still significantly slower.

But a small hope remains. It is likely that Google will continue to install an optical sensor to save money on expensive hardware or licenses, but will likely rely on a new model. Optical sensors don’t have to be significantly slower in everyday life. But what the Pixel 7 (Pro) had wasn’t addictively good.
