Edelkrone has just released a new motorized pan head that is compatible with the edelkrone JibONE, edelkrone Sliders & Dollies, and virtually all camera tripods: the edelkrone Pan PRO. This head has a maximum payload capacity of 30lbs / 13.5kg, and you can control it either manually, with the edelkrone remote controller or via the iOS/Android app. Let’s take a closer look at it!
Edelkrone, the company that specializes in innovative camera movement tools and accessories, is constantly working hard to bring new products to the market! In less than a year, they’ve launched the QuickRelease One V2, the SliderPLUS V5 and Slide Module V3, the edelkrone Controller that we discussed here, and the JibONE that we tested. Now the company is back with the edelkrone Pan PRO, a single-axis motorized head that integrates perfectly into their ecosystem of motion control tools.
Edelkrone Pan PRO – Features
The edelkrone Pan PRO is a compact – 110 x 135 x 60 mm – but relatively heavy – 1.89lb/858g – motorized pan head that can take payloads up to 30lbs / 13.5kg.
It attaches to your tripod via a 3/8″-16 mounting thread, and your camera/tripod head/slider/jib is mounting on top of it via another 3/8″-16 screw. There’s a safety lock to secure your setup when you need to move the camera.
The edelkrone Pan PRO is made out of CNC machined aluminum and stainless steel components, and it features a high contrast OLED screen. This screen gives you basic information about pairing and battery life.
Talking about battery life, the Pan PRO is powered via a single Canon LP-E6 battery that can run the device for around six hours at full speed, according to the company. It can also run out of mains power or bigger batteries if needed (barrel plug: 2.1 mm I.D. x 5.5 mm O.D x 9.5 mm), but it won’t charge the battery.
The edelkrone Pan PRO can rotate 360 degrees infinitely. It has a maximum speed of 18 degrees/sec when panning the head only and 5 degrees/sec when panning the JibONE. The minimum speed is 0.022 degrees per second. According to the company, the head uses “backlash-free gear design technology for reliable and smooth motion” and “a unique quiet step motor driving technology.”
The edelkrone Pan PRO is compatible with the JibONE, DollyONE, DollyPLUS, SliderONE, SliderPLUS & Slide Module. Of course, you can also use it with just your regular set of sticks and tripod head if you only need one axis of movement.
Connectivity
There are several ways to work with the Pan PRO. First, it can be controlled manually by hand. That means you can adjust the pan angle by hand, set your A/B points, all without the need for an app or remote controller. This “fly-by-wire” head positioning is also available when working with the App.
Next, you can control the head with the optional edelkrone Controller. This is a great and handy solution if you don’t want to use your smartphone.
Finally, the real magic happens when you connect the Pan PRO to the edelkrone iOS/Android App. Indeed, the App allows you to synchronize your edelkrone Sliders/JibONE/Dollies/Remote head wirelessly to create very complex movements. The edelkrone App is very well thought-out and easy to use, whether you need to set up a “basic” interview shot or create complex scenes with 2/3/4 axis shots with wireless focus changes.
Pricing and Availability
The edelkrone Pan PRO is available now for $599/€598. The company’s Black Friday deals have just started and the Pan PRO is now available for $419 until November 30, 2020.
