(Pocket-lint) – Back in 2021 Facebook, the company, announced it will be called Meta from now on. At that time we also heard that Oculus would follow suit in terms of branding.
Now that change is here and the VR division of Meta has announced that it’s renaming its VR headsets from Oculus Quest to Meta Quest.

This move is clearly intended to help the company solidify its move towards the metaverse and focus on that for the future.
At the moment it’s just a re-branding and current Oculus Quest users shouldn’t expect to see any impact on the services they’re already using. Interestingly the apps on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store still have the Oculus branding so it’s not necessarily all change instantly.
We do expect that any new headsets will launch using the new name though – like those prototypes that were teased in 2021.
Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth previously explained some of the logic behind it:

“VR will be the most immersive way for people to access the metaverse and as we look towards our goal of bringing [one billion] people into VR, we want to make it clear that Quest is a Meta product, “explained Bosworth in a Facebook post following the Connect 2021 keynote. “For this reason, we’re simplifying our brand architecture and shifting away from the Oculus brand for our hardware.”
As part of the rebranding, some Oculus services will be renamed Horizon. “[We’ll] expand Meta Horizon as the brand that will encompass all of our first-party immersive social experiences, ”Bosworth said. “You’ve seen this already with Horizon Workrooms and Horizon Worlds.”
Bosworth added: “Soon you’ll see us shift from Oculus to Horizon Home, Horizon Venues, Horizon Friends, and Horizon Profile”.
Lots happening for Meta in the future.
