Patch 1.12.3 for Elden Ring: Shadow of Erdtree finally fixed the Battle for the Golden Hippo, so that annoying monster will no longer be breathing down your neck when you enter its arena.
Today, July 4, Bandai Namco released a new patch for Elden Ring, which you can view in full here Publisher’s websiteThe headline feature of the new patch will likely be the optimization of two Shadows of Earthtree’s most frustrating bosses: Commander Gaius and Golden Hippopotamus.
“Boss positions in replay against Golden Hippopotamus and Commander Gaius have been changed to the same positions as in the first fight,” the patch notes read. This means that both bosses won’t attack you as soon as you enter their arena, which is good news.

You hate the golden hippo. I hate the golden hippo. We all hate the Golden Hippo. But with this patch, it means that the Shadow of the Earth tree boss should wake up from its slumber when you try to defeat it again, instead of rushing towards you and not even allowing you to summon a ghost. As soon as the war started.
The change is also useful for Commander Gaius for the same reason – you won’t have the boar anymore once the battle starts. I have to say that Gaius was a lot easier to deal with than Golden Hippo at the start of his fight, which was pretty annoying but frustrating in itself.
Additionally, the new Elden Ring patch fixed a bug where the “Golden Hippopotamus boss’ unblockable bite attack exposed players more easily than I intended. I knew I wasn’t imagining it – it turns out I missed every time I thought.” ” I was actually dodging the attack pretty well, only to be swallowed up by the golden hippo.
