Fitbit Sense
TL; DR
- The Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 are rumored to have a physical side button.
- This would be a big shift from the capacitive groove of the previous models.
- Our reviews for all Fitbit models with capacitive grooves call it the most frustrating aspect of the devices, so this is great news.
When it comes to fitness-focused smartwatches, two of our favorites are the Fitbit Sense and its cheaper sibling, the Fitbit Versa 3. Despite how much we love those devices, they both feature a frustrating design element: an inward-facing capacitive groove that is frequently unreliable.
Our reviews: Fitbit Sense | Fitbit Versa 3
Thankfully, it appears Fitbit could finally address this problem with the follow-ups to these two devices. According to info from 9to5Googlethe Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 could have a physical button on the side.
Check out a leaked image of what 9to5Google thinks is the Versa 4.
Fitbit Sense 2 / Versa 4 leaked image
Notably, the button as it appears in this leaked image is on the opposite side of where the capacitive groove is on the Sense and Versa 3. It is also unclear if this button physically depresses or is also capacitive. Either way, it should be much easier to manipulate the button if it physically protrudes from the watch.
It appears Fitbit will stick with the Sense / Versa 3 setup, which means the Fitbit Sense 2 / Versa 4 will be basically the same but with the Sense model offering more features. It’s also rumored that the watches will come with Fitbit OS rather than Google’s Wear OS. Since Google owns Fitbit now, there was some speculation its high-end watches would switch operating systems, but that doesn’t appear to be happening. At least not yet.
