Google has launched a major redesign of the Pixel Camera app with version 9.0, which specifically requires Android 14.
With this redesign, you get a photo/video toggle at the bottom of the screen. The left side of this tablet tells you how to access the settings panel, which can also be opened by swiping up (rather than down) into the viewfinder. The carousel of available camera functions continues above:
- Build (LR): Panning, Long Exposure, Portrait, Portrait, Night Scene, Panorama, Panorama
- video: pan, blurred [Cinematic]Video, slow motion, time lapse
Google Camera 9.0
Camera 8.9
A nice change here is moving the night site faster, while the video controls are now more spread out. The Camera 9.0 converter removes “modes” while still and remembers which photo or video mode you last used.
Meanwhile, for whatever reason, this redesign flips the camera roll preview – long press to access locked folders – and front/rear lens switching positions. Because of the bottom bar, there is no more interface at the top of the screen, but you cannot use this empty space because it is used to hide the front camera.
Aside from a redesign that places most of the controls below the screen for easy one-handed access, there aren’t any other radical visual changes. The theme icons are now updated and now bigger.
Google Camera 9.0.115.561695573.37 requires Android 14 and cannot be installed on Android 13 or earlier. Therefore, this update seems to be intended for Pixel users in the beta program. We worked on Pixel 7 Pro with Android 14 beta 5.3.
The new version started on September 7th, but is not generally available yet i play store. First discovered by Google Newsgroup on Telegram and can be downloaded from now on APK Mirror Today. What’s notable is that this ongoing rollout means the redesign won’t roll out to the Pixel 8 series.
