As excitement builds over Google’s soon-to-be-released Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones, more information has leaked about planned camera upgrades — and this time the information comes directly from Google.
In an official poll recently sent to Pixel dear fansThe company sought feedback on the “future of pixel sports” and asked its most loyal customer base to choose from a series of point-based photography scenarios, specifying which of these would influence their decision when purchasing a new smartphone.
Interestingly, the list of scenarios includes a selection of unreleased camera-based features that aren’t currently available on any Pixel product. I have listed them below:
- The new Audio Magic Eraser feature, already detailed in previous leaks, uses artificial intelligence to remove unwanted background noise from your video recordings.
- AI Photo Merge, which “combines everyone’s best shots with your phone’s AI technology to create the perfect group photo so everyone looks great.”
- New “Gphotos” editing feature – refers to new AI-based features in Google Photos that let you “instantly change a photo’s background, people’s clothing, or anything else in a photo.” This is supposed to refer to that Magic editor The post was announced earlier this year.
- Faster camera unlock – The Pixel 7 Pro’s camera is pretty quick to unlock, so it will be interesting to see what the Pixel 8 can do here and whether it makes a noticeable difference.
The full list of sightings has since been posted on X (née Twitter) by an experienced tip. Kamila Wojciechowski.
Group photos are very difficult to get right, especially with a large number of people (someone always has their eyes closed!), so any AI support help here would be appreciated. It’s not uncommon for professional photographers to take multiple versions of a group shot before cutting and pasting the best elements to achieve a new “perfect” result. Regular users are unlikely to encounter this problem, so having a smartphone to do this for you would be a great addition to the camera.
Apart from these software tricks, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro cameras are expected to feature an updated camera app and some significantly upgraded camera hardware. It looks like we’re in for an impressive show when the Pixel 8 lineup finally launches later this year.
