There was a lot of criticism for the fingerprint sensor that Google installed in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Not fast enough, was an often-heard complaint. Meanwhile, Google has improved again.
With the latest update, which brings Android 13 to the devices, Google has made some improvements to the fingerprint sensor on all three Pixel 6 smartphones. The sensor is integrated into the display there. There are several improvements in sensor performance, which I think you can definitely feel.
The fingerprint sensor should work better and it does
- General improvements to fingerprint performance, stability and reliability.
- General improvements for fingerprint unlocking in different lighting conditions.
- General usability improvements for fingerprint enrollment.
Also, there were the following improvements and bug fixes that only affect the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6a:
- Fixed an issue that caused the app to crash when unlocking fingerprints under certain conditions.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes prevented fingerprint unlocking when notifications were shaded down.
- Fixed an issue where the fingerprint icon would occasionally clip to on-screen UI elements
- Fixed an issue where the fingerprint icon would occasionally stay on screen.
- Fixed an issue where fingerprint would occasionally stop working under certain conditions.
- Improved haptic latency and fingerprint response when unlocking.
Older pixels hardly need any improvement
Interestingly, Google has nothing left to improve on older models like the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a. There was only one bug fix for Face Unlock on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL. I think it’s really good that the Pixel 6 series has made continuous improvements since launch that users actually notice.
