New Tensor G3 SoC, improved display and exciting fine-tuning for the camera: Google has lifted the curtain and presented its next-generation smartphones, including the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. We give you a brief overview of the most important innovations.
Now as usual, many details were discussed in advance Leaked series brought to the surface. But only now are there really all the details about the Pixel 8 series’ features and pricing — and some exciting details.
Let’s start with the design, because here Google has managed to give a fine finishing touch to the Pixel 8 and its Pro variant without losing the familiar Pixel look. First and foremost, however, the smartphone became something of a duo Designed to be more rounded, which is particularly evident in the four corners. The normal Pixel has been made more compact and therefore ten grams lighter.
Improved camera, especially on the Pixel 8 Pro!
Let’s stay straight back and look at the camera, as the Pixel series always offers strong quality here (feel free to take a look Our test of the Pixel 7 series authentic 😊). Both smartphones again get the 50 MP main sensor (1/1.31″, 82° FoV, 1.2 µm pixels), but now with an f/1.68 aperture. very bright.
In both cases, the main camera is complemented by an ultra-wide angle. While the Pixel has a 12 MP sensor with autofocus, f/2.2 aperture and 125.8° field of view, the Pro model gets a Upgrade to a 48MP sensor with autofocus, f/1.95 aperture and 125.5° FoV. Also, the Pixel 8 Pro again has a 5x optical telephoto camera with 48 megapixels, which is slightly more sensitive to light with an f/2.8 aperture.
For selfies, Google has installed one on both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro 10.5 megapixel front camera, f/2.2 aperture and 95° FoV. However, the sensor only has autofocus on the Pro model. More details are available In technical information further down
Bright OLED display and new Tensor G3 SoC
The Pixel 8 Pro (finally) has a flat display again. The 6.7″ OLED panel in 20:9 format offers crisp resolution and smooth, adaptive 120 Hz with LTPO technology. According to Google, one should Maximum brightness is 2,400 nits can be achieved, with HDR up to 1,600 nits possible. The front is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
However, Google has installed one on the Pixel 8 Very compact 6.2 inch OLED With Full HD+ resolution, finally up to 120 Hz instead of 90 Hz (though not adaptive) and a maximum brightness of up to 2,000 nits. It has Gorilla Glass Victus on top for protection.
Inside, the Tensor G3 is the third generation SoC made by Google. It remains to be seen how much performance we can expect and whether the chip works more efficiently and thus ensures longer battery life. The Pixel 8 has 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB or 256 GB of storage; The Pro model gets 12 GB of RAM with a combination of 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage.
Large battery with “fast” charging
While the battery is on Pixel 8 Pro with 5.050 mAh A bit bigger (+50 mAh), at least the Pixel 8 gets a nice upgrade to 4,575 mAh (+220 mAh) – despite its smaller dimensions. Charging performance has also been slightly improved: Up to 30 watts in Pro, up to 27 watts for the regular Pixel 8. Combined with a separately available 30 watt charger from Google, 50% should return to the battery in 30 minutes. Wireless charging is also possible.
The Pixel smartphones are rounded off by an IP68 certification, meaning the duo is protected from water and dust. In addition, the Pro model has it for the first time A temperature sensor, which is used for .. yes actually what .. (we’ll figure it out for you!) A USB-C 3.2 port is installed at the bottom. Also a dual SIM with eSIM, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 7 is at 802.11be 6 GHz, BT 5.3, UWB with both Pro and NFC.
And finally, perhaps the best news, in terms of durability as well: Google is donating the Pixel 8 series Security patches up to 7 years. The only thing currently unclear is how many Android versions (currently three years) there will be.
Price and Availability
When it comes to color, Google has again decided on three attractive tones. The Pixel 8 is available in Obsidian, Hazel and Rose, while the Pixel 8 Pro is offered in Obsidian, Porcelain and Bay. It starts with the price Google Pixel 8 is now 799 euros RRP. Google The Pixel 8 Pro is available from 1,099 euros For purchase.
