In recent years, Google has changed its own smartphones, some of them drastically. But what hasn’t been there for a long time is a microSD memory card slot. Google had already refrained from doing this during the Nexus days. But another point was deliberately missed.
Storage is probably not developed on purpose
Because until today, regular memory is only 128 GB and there is no option for cheap models. Other manufacturers at least offer other options or continue to offer microSD. But Google has a good reason not to do just that. You’d rather win paying customers for Google One (Cloud).
But it doesn’t work so well in markets like Germany I don’t think people trust cloud services too much when it comes to their smartphone data.
The handle is now gone
Unfortunately, what Google finally deleted this year was the good old jack connection. The new Pixel 6a has the design of its big brothers and hence no more 3.5mm jack. In previous years, smartphones were one of Jack’s last bastions.
Small displays are rare even at Google these days
Speaking of the last turret, the same was true of the displays. Before the Pixel 6 series, Google only scratched the 6-inch. You were pretty much alone with that. With the Pixel 6, however, it only starts at 6.5 inches. After all, the Pixel 7 should be a bit smaller and handier again. Right now only the Pixel 6a is relatively small.
Google just didn’t make the right decision. You can skip microSD as far as I’m concerned, but a 256GB option should be more readily available for Pixel phones. Unfortunately, the displays have revealed their own identity, but other OEMs are following the trend. Too bad.
