Google seems to be taking a better approach with its Pixel devices when it comes to durability and repair. For several years now, we have been able to allow customers to repair their smartphones themselves. Replacement parts and accessories are available at iFixit.
And Google is doing well in other ways, writes “GlobalData”. Google is even seen as a leader in the “right to repair” movement, which is gaining momentum in Europe and the US. Google will specifically design Pixel devices to be durable and easy to repair.
Google recently delivered another point on the software front. The update guarantee has been extended for older Pixel models. Pixel 6 and Co. K will be kept up to date and will be maintained with all updates for two years after the original warranty has expired.
It’s still not like before when the user could just lift the phone cover and remove the battery, but smartphones are now much easier to repair and that’s a good point. Only smaller wearables like the Pixel Watch and Galaxy Ring need improvement.
