Ahead of a busy year of hardware launches for Google, a new Wear OS smartwatch was listed with the FCC today, but it doesn’t appear to be the Pixel Watch 3.
Over the past few months we’ve reported some details about the upcoming Pixel Watch 3, including that Google plans to offer two sizes. Another useful piece of information is that we discovered that Google is preparing to use a UWB connection instead of Bluetooth LE to operate WatchUnlock, which suggests that the Pixel Watch 3 will have UWB support.
Our current prediction is that the Pixel Watch 3 will launch this fall alongside the Pixel 9 lineup – dubbed the “Pixel 9 Pro Fold”. In this case, it was recently released Federal Communications Commission The Google device listing (model number G4SKY) seems out of place. Specifically, the instructions for viewing the FCC’s electronic label set on a device are exactly where you’ll find the same information on your existing Pixel Watch, not on your phone or tablet:
Regulatory information, certifications, and compliance marks can be found on the home screen using the following steps: Settings > System > Regulatory Information.
Since the Pixel Watch 3 isn’t scheduled to launch until the fall, we don’t expect an FCC listing until late summer at the earliest. Additionally, this device doesn’t appear to have UWB connectivity, so it’s probably not the Pixel Watch 3.
In this case, what is the mysterious Wear OS device coming soon from Google? one It is unlikely Alongside the upcoming Pixel 8a we’ll expect some mid-range “Pixel Watch 2a”. However, no leaks or reports indicate that any of these smartwatches are in the works
Another interesting detail is that this G4SKY watch apparently only comes in one form that comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and LTE connectivity. The inclusion of LTE rules out alternative Android options like Chromecast, while the lack of 5G rules out the possibility of a Pixel Tablet 2.
All in all, it looks like Google or Fitbit’s Pixel Watch replacement is in the works. As we’re now less than a month away from Google I/O 2024, it’s possible we’ll learn more about the hardware at the event, which will already mark the debut of the Pixel 8a.
