Google is planning another adaptive option for its Pixel smartphone.
The new “Adaptive Timeout” feature discovered in Android 15 source code aims to improve device battery life by intelligently adjusting screen timer behavior. Currently, users have to manually set a certain time after which the screen automatically turns off when not in use. This setting is made dynamic with the “Adaptive Timeout” function.
Der “adaptive period” will be Proactively detect when the device is not in use and therefore turn off the screen faster than previously set. For example, if the screen off time is set to two minutes, but the device stops being used after 15 seconds, the screen may turn off much sooner instead of waiting the full two minutes. This effectively saves battery because the screen is one of the biggest power consumers in a smartphone.
If Google implements the feature as planned, it could first appear with Android 15 on Pixel smartphones in the fall of 2024. It remains to be seen how useful this feature will be in practice and whether it will actually be included in the final version of Android 15, as there may still be changes before the official release. But this option fits well with the existing range of features adapted from Android on the Google Pixel.
