Qualcomm is reportedly getting ready to launch a successor to its current flagship processor – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. That means the next wave of flagship phones is not too far away.
In partnership with OnSiteGoTipster Yogesh Brar reports that Qualcomm will launch the so-called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus in early May, and flagship models with the SoC will release as early as June.
There is no information about the specs of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus yet, but the leakers say it’s based on TSMC’s 4nm platform. You can expect the silicon to bring clock speed improvements and faster AI processing over the current top-tier Snapdragon. Qualcomm usually doesn’t change much else on the Plus models of its flagship chips.
Furthermore, the leak mentions the first crop of smartphone brands that will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. Take a look below.
OnePlus
OnePlus is already rumored to be working on an Ultra model of the OnePlus 10 Pro. The phone is expected to launch sometime in September and could be the perfect candidate to house the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.
Xiaomi
Like OnePlus, Xiaomi is also expected to launch the Xiaomi 12 Ultra later this year. Popular tipster Digital Chat Station Recently revealed that the phone would run on the upcoming Qualcomm chipset.
Lenovo / Motorola
Lenovo-owned Motorola is currently reading a not-so-mysterious phone codenamed Frontier. Renders and specs of the device have been circling the web these past few days and a recent leak, once again from Digital Chat Station, suggests that the Frontier will carry the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. Lenovo is also believed to be working on another phone with its own branding that will be powered by the new SoC.
