Google is preparing to open a “preview” program for the Home app on Android, giving you early access to new features for your smart home — and here’s how to sign up.
About APK Insights: In this APK Insights post, we have unzipped the latest version of an app that Google has uploaded to the Play Store. If we decompile these files (called APK files in the case of Android applications), we will see various lines of code within these hints for possible future features. Note that Google may or may not ship these features, and our explanation of what they are may be incomplete However, we’ll try to let those closer to the target show you what they look like when they attack. With that in mind, read on.
Google has offered a public preview program for Chromecasts, Google Home speakers, and Nest Hub displays for years. For the past few years, this preview program has been the gateway to testing the Google Fuchsia operating system, but it’s usually designed to test new features a few weeks before release.
It appears that Google is planning to extend its preview program to the Google Home app. As shown below, the registration page tells you that the preview program will open “primary features” on the Google homepage, but of course warns that these features will likely be riddled with bugs.

As it is written, it looks like Google will allow select people to download the trial version of the Google Home app from the Play Store. It’s interesting that Google uses a closed beta system for this app, considering that few other apps — Android Auto, Google Messages, Play Services, and many others — offer open beta testing to anyone brave enough to log in.
The new preview program comes weeks after Google announced that it was launching a “Google Nest Trusted Tester” on Centercode for testing purposes. Next generation design For the Google Home app. These two programs are probably similar, but the in-app subscription flow will not ask for any personal information other than what is in CenterCode.
As far as we can tell, it’s possible that Google only wants to sign up for this preview program to make it available to a limited number of people. For the lucky few, it should appear somewhere in the top bar of the Google Home app for Android.
However, if you want to try your luck at registering, you can easily access the Google Home App Preview Program registration page manually. Click on the link below on your Android device and you will be taken directly to the registration page. From there, click Request an invite to show your interest in becoming a tester. From there, it all depends on whether Google accepts you into the program.
