(Pocket-Lint) – Meta WhatsApp is updating so you can easily transfer your conversation history from Android to iPhone. Previously, it only allowed you to remove chats from iPhone to Android. CEO Mark Zuckerberg The changes were announced in a Facebook post, resolving long-standing complaints about how difficult it can be to transfer phone data between two mobile operating systems. Here’s what you need to know about how to transfer WhatsApp chats to your phone if you don’t use Android or iPhone.
How To Transfer WhatsApp Chats From Android To iPhone
To get started, you need to use Apple Go to the iOS app. It helps Android users to move their contacts, calendars, SMS and now WhatsApp chats to iPhone.
- Download Go to the iOS app On your Android phone.
- Start setting up your new or factory-reset iPhone.
- Select the “Remove data from Android” option.
- Follow the steps to remove the iOS app on your Android app.
- Once your iPhone is fully set up, open the WhatsApp app.
- Sign in using the same phone number.
- You should have a pre-existing Android chat history.

- The process only works with new or factory-reset iPhones.
- To start chat data transfer, you need to:
- Android 5 or higher on your Android device
- IOS 15.5 on your iPhone
- If you already have an existing iOS chat history, the imported Android history will overwrite it.
How To Transfer WhatsApp Chats From iPhone To Android
On Android 12, Google offers an operating-system-level feature that lets you move your WhatsApp chat history from an iPhone to your Android device. The feature was limited to Pixel phones at launch but is being rolled out to all new smartphones launched with Android 12.
- Connect the iPhone to your new or factory-reset Android 12 phone via a USB-C Lightning cable.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to import all or selected data from iPhone to your Android 12 phone.
- When prompted, tap the Continue button to complete the data transfer.
- If requested, scan the QR code displayed on your Android device using your iPhone.
- Scanning QR code will open WhatsApp on iPhone.
- Tap the Start button, and that’s it.

- You need a USB-C Lightning cable to start the transfer
- There is a separate transfer process for Android powered Samsung phones.
How To Transfer WhatsApp Chat From iPhone To Samsung
WhatsApp has not only worked with Google to allow local transfer of WhatsApp backups from an iPhone to an Android device, especially with Samsung. In fact, if you’re moving from an iPhone to a Samsung Android device, you can transfer your chat history, account information, profile photos and settings. You can’t just transfer calls.
- Reset your Samsung device.
- Open Smart-switch app on your Samsung device.
- Connect your iPhone to your Samsung device via a USB-C Lightning cable.
- Select all the apps and data you want to transfer, including WhatsApp.
- If requested, scan the QR code displayed on the phone screen.
- QR code to open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Tap the Start button to continue the data transfer.
- You can now complete your Samsung device setup.
- Once done, open WhatsApp and log in using the same number as the iPhone.
- Press the Import button to complete the process.
