(Pocket-Lint) – If you want to switch from iPhone to Android, but you don’t really want to lose your messages, contacts and data, we’ve got it. And so does Google.
Recently, like Apple’s app that lets you move things from Android to iPhone, Google has launched its ‘Switch to Android’ app in the App Store. And – thanks for the latest Play Store updates – you can use it now
It lets you transfer data wirelessly and we’re going to show you how to use it; You can follow the video below or read for a written guide.
However, we will say this: the wireless method is not as good as the ordinary wired method. At the moment it only allows contacts, calendar events, photos and videos. The wired method lets you pick up apps, messages, and more data, so we’ve included a guide to the wired method below.
Step 1 – Download the app
Your first step towards a new wireless approach is obvious. You need to download the ‘Switch to Android’ app on your iPhone. At this point in time, when you go to the App Store and search for it, it doesn’t actually appear in the search. However, you can Get it here.
Open that app and give it the necessary permissions to work, and then press ‘Accept Terms of Service’ and ‘Start’. Now you will see a screen with a camera viewfinder to scan a QR code Leave your iPhone there for now.
The second step – the new phone
This service is designed for people who want to switch to a brand new phone There is no app to install on Android phones, instead, it is part of the initial setup process. What’s more, your new phone must be running Android 12 or later, as well as the latest version of Google’s Play Services. You will soon find out if you can do this, as soon as you start the process of setting up your new phone.
- Power up the new Android phone
- Start the setup process – connect to Wi-Fi (this is important)
- On the ‘Copy apps and data’ screen, tap ‘Next’
- On the ‘Use your old device’ screen, tap ‘Next’ again
- On the ‘Find cable for your old device’ screen, tap ‘No cable’
- Tap ‘Copy another way’ in the pop-up window
- In the next screen, select ‘Switching from iPhone or iPad’
If you don’t see any of this in your new phone’s setup process, you can’t use the ‘Switch to Android’ app, so you should follow the old method of using Google Drive. Setup will guide you through this process.
If you see the option to transfer with a cable, but there is no option for wireless transfer, you have a few options. You can either scroll through our guide to the word transfer below (which is much better anyway), or skip the rest of the setup process on the phone and check the software and system updates on the phone for the latest Play Services updates. .
Once this is done, you need to factory reset the phone and start the process again from scratch. We advise you not to waste your time doing this, and instead just go for wired transfers
The third step – wireless transfer
Assuming you’ve now reached the Wireless Transfer page on your Android phone setup, you can now start copying across your data.
- Click ‘Allow’ on the ‘Wireless Copy Location’ screen
- Click ‘Next’ on the Google Accounts sign-in screen
- Sign in to your Google Account
- On the next screen you will see a QR code
- Scan the QR code on your iPhone using the Switch to Android app
- Tap ‘Join’ to connect wirelessly to Android phone’s Wi-Fi.
If this step fails at first, keep trying. We tried a few to get started.
You will get a pop-up that requires permission to connect the device to your local network, tap ‘OK’. The app then needs access to your data, so press ‘Continue’ and then allow it access to your contacts, calendars and photos. It will then show a spinning logo and say it is getting ready to be copied

The next step is selecting which files and data you want to transfer. And this is where you see the limitations of wireless service. It only provides the ability to transfer contacts, calendar events, photos and videos. If you go on cable routes and connect them with a cable, you’ll find much more, including the old app.
If all four of these are the only data you need, continue and wait for the transfer to complete. While doing this you can continue to set up the Android phone as it pulls the data into the background. You will then find ‘Copied your data on screen’. And that’s it. Wait until data transfer.
Well, the wired transfer method
For this method, you do not need to have the ‘Switch to Android’ app. You just need your iPhone, a lightning USB-C cable, and the Android phone to which you want to transfer data. We’ll say this as a tip to get started: Make sure both phones are fully charged, otherwise your iPhone may start sucking battery juice from the new Android phone. And it may take a while.
Like the wireless version, you go through the setup process of a new phone until you reach a screen that asks if you want to copy data from your old phone.
- Click ‘Next’ when you see the screen saying ‘Use your old device’
- Hold the lighting on the USB-C cable, press ‘Next’
- Keep hitting next and follow the instructions
- Lightning and plug in your iPhone if instructed
- When prompted, plug the USB-C end into the new Android phone
You will get a pop-up on your iPhone asking you to trust the new device. Click the Trust option, and then enter your PIN or PASKI. From this point it is quite straight forward. With both phones connected, do the rest of the setup process on the Android phone
- Sign in to your Google Account
- Continue the steps until you see a screen getting ready to copy (this may take some time)
- Select everything you want to copy, then press ‘Continue’
- Start the copying process and wait
This is almost it. It will take some time for you to transfer a lot of data, but you should copy it all for yourself.
