As early as May 2021, it was clear that Google would have no more compact flagship cell phones. This was confirmed with the presentation of the Pixel 6 series and will be repeated again with the release of the Pixel 7. Even the Pixel 6a, which is slightly more compact, is still bigger than the Pixel 5.
However, there is said to be another compact flagship from Google coming soon. At least that’s what you hear from the inner circle. There are a few points that speak for it, but there are many more that speak against it at present. We would like to summarize what is known so far and what the current situation is.
Fact is: only one insider has mentioned Google’s more compact Pixel flagship to date. He also mentioned a code name that doesn’t fit what Google otherwise uses for internal code names. Neither blue fish nor birds. Blue is not even an animal. It would be out of character for Google to break out of the habit.
The mood is also somewhat cloudyThat Apple has discontinued its mini smartphone. The new iPhone 14 series comes without a mini version. But to be honest, I didn’t expect to use a device with a display less than 5 inches from another manufacturer, as the battery capacity suffers greatly.
On the other hand, it is positive, that Apple and Samsung, for example, still make it possible to start in a rather compact way. The smallest devices out there have around 6-inch displays. The Pixel 6a is also available from Google, but only in mid-range and fairly large cases.
The question is whether Google is interested in it. At the moment it looks like the compact dimensions of the A-series will be preserved. So have a compact device as an option in your portfolio for a long time. And so the Pixel flagship with a smaller display is as much a myth as the Pixel Ultra for now.
Do you want a flagship with a 6 inch display again?
