iOS 16 could debut with always-on display support for iPhone 14 Pro models

According to a report, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max iOS 16 will always support on-display. The new iOS version, which is expected to debut at WWDC 2022 Keynote next week, will bring future support for the always-on-lock screen. Apple’s iOS 16 is also said to have updated features such as messages, new social networks. In addition to the new iOS release, Cupertino is expected to showcase its updated iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and macOS at WWDC Keynote.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman gets his newsletter Power On Says IOS 16 will include future support for an always-on lock screen that will allow the iPhone to significantly reduce its frame rate and display “glansable information” while the screen is idle – just like the newer Apple Watch models. The mentioned support is expected to be available exclusively on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Earlier, there were rumors that Apple would offer an always-on display on iPhone 13 Pro models, although the company did not bring that support in the end.

Gurman also mentioned in his newsletter that iOS 16 would be a fairly “significant upgrade” for iPhone users. It claims to have notifications as well as updates to new messages and health apps

On the messages front, Apple is expected to launch a new experience in audio messaging.

The new iOS version is said to have major lock screen enhancements with capabilities like wallpapers and widgets.

In addition to the update for iPhone users, Apple is expected to enhance the software experience on the iPad with the release of the iPadOS 16 at this year’s WWDC. The new iPadOS will bring big changes to Windows and multitasking, Gurman said.

Apple also said it would release a watchOS update with a list of improvements to the Apple Watch “affecting daily operating and navigation”. The company’s health app has been additionally reported to improve health tracking on both the iPhone and Apple Watch, although the app is unlikely to expand to the iPad and Mac.

Similarly, Apple TV users can expect some upgrades as Gurman says a newer TVS version will make more smart-home tie-ins available. Mac users, on the other hand, may get an overhaul of system preferences to appear similar to the settings available in iOS.

Apple is unlikely to unveil a new iPhone model at WWDC 2022 as it could bring the iPhone 14 series to another event sometime in September. However, Gurman predicted that at the developer conference the company aimed to launch its new MacBook Air with M2 chip.

Gurman says developers have reported that Apple employees are increasingly using next-generation MacBook Air models with their app. The journalist previously said that in addition to the new MacBook Air options, Apple will work to upgrade the high-end Mac Mini, 24-inch Mac and a new low-end MacBook Pro.

The WWDC Keynote is being held virtually on June 6th. After the keynote address, the Developers Conference will begin and run until June 10th.
