The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro are set to launch in a few months, which means it’s not the best time to buy a new iPhone 15. Unless you’re in desperate need of a new iPhone, it’s a good idea to wait until September until the iPhone 16 or other iPhones are cheaper.
Here are five new features on the iPhone 16 that will be worth the wait…
big screen
While the overall design of the iPhone 16 will be similar to the iPhone 15, Apple has made a noticeable change in the form factor. According to multiple sources, including reliable analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature larger displays than their predecessors.
The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to have a 6.3-inch screen compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s 6.1-inch screen. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to have a 6.9-inch display, compared to the 6.7-inch display on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
If these rumors are true, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the largest iPhone ever released. Additionally, this will be the first change in iPhone screen size since the launch of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max in 2020.
Long battery life and fast charging
The entire iPhone 16 series is said to have larger batteries. As a reminder, here are the battery capacities of the iPhone 15 series:
- iPhone 15: 3.349 mAh
- iPhone 15 Plus: 4.383 mAh
- iPhone 15 Pro: 3274 mAh
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4.422 mAh
Here are the reported specifications for the iPhone 16:
- iPhone 16: 3,561 mAh (6.3% increase)
- iPhone 16 Plus: 4,006 mAh (8.6% reduction)
- iPhone 16 Pro: 3,355 mAh (2.5% increase)
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,676 mAh (5.7% increase)
Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone 16 battery will have a high energy density. Apple is also reportedly testing ways to make iPhone 16 battery replacement easier, including a new metal casing for the battery.
According to a rumor, the iPhone 16 may also offer faster charging speeds. Currently, the iPhone 16 can be charged at 15W via MagSafe and 27W via a USB-C cable. The rumor suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro will support 20W fast charging with MagSafe and 40W wired fast charging.
Record button
All four iPhone 16 models will have a new camera capture button, located on the right side of the phones (the same location the mmWave 5G antenna currently has in the US).
The surface of the record button should be touch sensitive. iPhone 16 users can swipe left and right on the capture button surface to zoom in and out. Furthermore, according to Data dieUsers can focus images by lightly pressing the button and activate the shutter by pressing harder.
Apple is smart for everyone
At this year’s WWDC, Apple announced Apple Intelligence, a set of AI features that the company will introduce to its platforms later this year. However, for iPhone users, the features are only available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
However, the entire iPhone 16 lineup this fall is expected to support Apple Intelligence thanks to a new chip and more RAM.
Camera-upgrade
Multiple sources have reported that the iPhone 16 Pro is based on the same 5x zoom quad-camera setup currently found exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This was recently confirmed by Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 5x zoom camera set like the Pro Max.
Kuo also reported that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will use Sony’s new camera sensor for the main camera. Analyst Jeff Bow reports that the iPhone 16 Pro will use a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, which is a significant improvement over the current 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera on the iPhone 15 Pro.
