“Finally”, the Android operating system will soon reveal more about smartphone batteries.
In theory, smartphones these days are being used for longer and longer periods of time as they receive new updates over the years and are still fast enough even after a long period of time. But the Android operating system has spent a lot of time providing better information about battery life, the biggest weakness of smartphone longevity. Now finally comes what’s old hat for iPhone users.
Google is currently working hard to reveal more about battery health on Android. This has been known for some time, but developments are progressing again. There are some new interfaces through which Android can read important battery data. Android just needs to show the user what is planned for the future in the settings.
Android will soon reveal more about the battery: remaining capacity, charging cycles and more
This may change for Pixel devices in the next few months, as the corresponding innovations have already appeared in the new Android 14 QPR2 beta. Battery Settings will have a new page that provides information about battery status. This means, for example, what percentage of the original capacity is still remaining and actually available.

It also plans to provide information on whether the device still has the original battery. In the future, the software can tell you if the battery has already been replaced. You should be able to read a serial number and date of manufacture.
Google will likely introduce these innovations first with a Pixel feature drop for Android 14 on the Google Pixel, and then make them generally available for all Android devices with Android 15. But today it is not possible to say for sure, because the plans discovered in the source code can change at any time.
The new Android 14 QPR2 will probably be released in March 2024, after which Pixel users will know more.
