Last November, Venus Optics announced its Laowa 85mm F5.6 2x Ultra Macro APO lens. It took some time to get our hands on one, but we managed to do so and over the past few weeks, DPReview news editor Gannon Burgett took it around town to see how it performed on his Canon EOS R.
Despite its 85mm focal length, the lens is quite compact, measuring in as the smallest 2x macro lens for full-frame mirrorless camera systems. It’s available for Canon RF, Leica M, Nikon Z and Sony E mount. The Canon RF, Nikon Z and Sony E mount versions are priced at 449 while the Leica M mount version retails for 499.
You can see how it performs yourself by looking through the gallery, which includes an array of shots at various apertures in various lighting environments.
