Inside JunkopiaThis fall is coming Jackbox Party Pack 9, One person’s garbage is another person’s more expensive garbage! Xbox fans are looking for their next favorite party game and we’re excited to share the game with them today.
In the beginning Junkopia, Players are unfortunate people who have been turned into frogs by a confused magician. He may put you in a bit of a pickle but he has rooting for you! This wizard needs your help. He likes weird old man things but he hates their annoying backstory. That’s why he needs you to create some interesting information about them.
Our human / frog heroes embark on a quest where they must buy a strange and mysterious item, give it a fun backstory, and then evaluate it for resale. The player who pays the net at the maximum profit margin gets the right to return to their human form.
Behind the gameplay
Creating Junkopia, The team wanted the players to have creative freedom without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you are a player who likes direction while writing silly stories or you like complete freedom, this game is designed with you in mind.
The items themselves are mostly pictures of real life objects that are curated by the team. During the game, you are selling your object with original stories and fun information. The game sets you up to do this by prompting you to fill in the blanks to help you get started, such as:
- A simple explanation of why the face is missing is ______.
- There is an engraving on the back which says ‘______’.
- It was originally designed for ______.
If you’re inspired, there’s also an option to write your own facts from scratch.
According to editorial lead Liz Anderson, the items that made it into the game are familiar, as one would actually find at an antique auction, but somewhat “off” – stimulating, weird or wild enough to push the player because that’s why the thing is fair. That’s the way it is.
Like other jackbox titles Obviously stupid, You have the ability to present your item for direct bidding or let the game share your information for you. If your item is considered the most profitable, POOF, you are human again. Although, based on how beautiful these frogs are, is the damage really a loss?
The idea for the game came to game director Spencer Ham two years ago. An avid antique, he was inspired to create a jackbox game centered around the really bizarre items that you will find in various antique malls across the Midwest.
Janktopia world
Junkopia Magical moments and spells that exist in a world of flops. The game is set in a thriving store of curiosity that is put together by powerful magic and duct tape. Lots of duct tape.

To strike a balance between the magician’s rough nature, artist Steve Egan has created his extra-cute frog sidekick and frog avatar representing the players.
