LG presents a new generation of OLED and QNED televisions at CES 2024. OLED televisions mainly benefit from improved brightness values and higher refresh rates. There is also WebOS innovation and an update guarantee.
Like every year, LG has brought a new range of televisions to the Consumer Electronics Show. OLED innovations include the 2024 model M4, G4, C4 and B4. Of particular note are the M4 and G4 models, which feature MLA technology and a “Brightness Booster Max” equipped, which enables up to 70 percent more brightness than conventional OLED televisions (such as the B4 panel). Also, “Peak Highlighter” on these models increases peak brightness by up to 150 percent in small image areas (3% APL). Although MLA is not used, the G4 should be a little brighter thanks to the brightness booster.
- M4 OLED: 65″, 77″, 83″, 97″
- G4 OLED: 65″, 77″, 83″, 97″
- C4 OLED: 42″, 48″, 55″, 65″, 77″, 83″
- B4 OLED: 48″, 55″, 65″, 77″
M4 again with zero connect
MLA technology (“Micro Lens Array”) ensures that light is focused on 4K UHD’s approximately 8.3 million pixels, enabling more efficient use and higher brightness. The M4 is virtually identical to the G4, but has zero-connect-function. Apart from the power supply, this model has no connections.
Instead, a connect box wirelessly sends image and sound signals to the screen. There’s a reason the M4 is only available for wall mounting except for the 97-inch size: Zero Connect’s wireless transmitter is located in the bottom center and is dominated by metal. In the 97-inch version, the legs are on the side.
144 Hertz and Alpha 11
All newer models except the B4 support the refresh rate so far 144 hertz. This is especially interesting for gamers, as both FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync are supported up to this frequency. The budget model B4 remains at the previous 120 Hz rate.
Another innovation is the Alpha 11 image processor, which is used in the M4 and G4 models. This processor is an offer Significantly improved performance Compared to its predecessor, that is reflected in four times higher AI performance, 1.7 times higher graphics performance and 1.3 times higher CPU performance. LG promises, among other things, improved AI upscaling as well as optimized dynamic HDR tone mapping and new color enhancements. The C4 model however has the Alpha 9 and the B4 the Alpha 8.
QNED 43 to 98 inches
The new QNED televisions, which range in size from 43 to 98 inches, integrate quantum dot technology in combination with LED or mini-LED backlighting. LG has the top model here QNED99T with Alpha 9 chip One, other models such as the 90T and 85T use the Alpha 8 chip. Includes the new QNED lineup Some even have height adjustable models.
LG TVs run the updated WebOS 24 operating system, which offers several optimizations including a Advanced user account management and a new far-field speech recognition. LG also guarantees that all televisions with WebOS 24 will receive updates (five years) up to WebOS 28.
As far as the availability and price of new televisions, especially for the German market It was announced in March When LG held its annual conference in Frankfurt.
