Ah, New Game+. A staple of Yakuza and Like a Dragon games for decades, the upcoming release of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will see the feature behind an additional paywall. It was a move that disappointed fans as SEGA’s fundraising efforts tarnished the highly anticipated release.
Infinite Wealth’s new Game+ mode appears to be exclusive to the Master Vocation DLC packs included with the Deluxe and Ultimate editions of the game (which retail for an additional $15 and $40, respectively). Again, previous Like a Dragon titles included New Game+ by default. There is no doubt that SEGA is copying an existing feature to increase sales of the more expensive product from the base version.
For those out of the loop, New Game+ usually allows you to start a new playthrough while retaining any progress your character made from the entire playthrough. In previous Like a Dragon games, they were designed to give you a big advantage when tackling the toughest modes – or you could use them to relive the story without having to worry about unlocking your abilities again.
There’s also some concern about the “Hero Booster Pack” pre-order bonus, which allows you to “level up faster”. It never looks good, especially when its predecessor, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, does a grinding job at the end of the story.
