Just a few weeks after the initial release, John Wofford, Lead UI Design Artist at Retro Studios, shared some insight into the development of 4th Edition and his work on Samus’ mask and head-up display (HUD), as you watch the game:
“Metroid Prime 4 was a great project, and my favorite part was designing, building and animating Samus’ HUD. I learned a lot during MPR and hope it shows… I think the trailer shows it well. “That a HUD Don’t have to spend for “Stunning environments, characters, lighting, animation and equal effort compete with visual effects… I am constantly impressed by the talent of this team.”

It features swipe animations, transitions, UI details on Samus’ mask, and even displays her morph ball. If you look closely at certain shots in the trailer, you can see Wofford’s work on the user interface displayed on a computer screen in one scene (see below).
John Wofford also served as the UI artist on Metroid Prime Remastered, coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2023.
