Together with the release of World Update X: United States, we are excited to launch the fifth plane today. Microsoft Flight Simulator “Local Legends” Series, Beechcraft Model 18. It is a low-wing, twin-engine utility aircraft manufactured by the American aircraft manufacturer Beach Aircraft Corporation. Often called “Twin Beach” or less commonly “Beach 18”, it has six seats in a general configuration with two crew members. It made its maiden flight on January 15, 1937, and was launched into mainstream service shortly thereafter. More than 9,000 were made between 1937 and late 1969.
With additional thanks to its two muscular radial engines, the All-Metal Twin Beach meets the needs of passenger and freight services, including business and executive transportation, scientific, firefighting and mapping. During World War II, more than 4,500 C-45 designated aircraft were used for forward observation, reconnaissance, and bombing. Today, despite its age, the Model 18 serves more than a dozen countries around the world, a testament to its durable design and laborious construction.
The Model 18 has a 47-foot, 8-inch, a traditional undercarriage, and a twin-fin ampenase with a slightly fluttering main wing featuring a horizontal stabilizer and two vertical stabilizers. It is powered by two wing-mounted Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-1 Wasp Jr. 9-cylinder radial engines that produce up to 450 horsepower each. Beach 18 has a range of 1,130 miles, climbs at 1,200 feet per minute, and has a service ceiling 20,500 feet above sea level. It travels at 211 miles per hour, stalls 77 miles per hour, and enjoys a maximum speed of 230 miles per hour.
