Microsoft has announced that it will close the Xbox 360 Store next year.
Specifically, as of July 29, 2024, Xbox 360 console users will no longer be able to purchase content directly through the console or through the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
Players will still be able to enjoy all previously purchased Xbox 360 games and downloadable content using their older Xbox 360 consoles after this date.
If players delete a purchased game, they can still download it again. Players can continue to play these games online (if supported by their publisher) and save their game progress in the cloud.
This does not affect the ability to purchase backward compatible Xbox 360 games and downloadable content from the Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S Store, as the titles will continue to be available.
However, backwards compatibility only goes so far. 2,154 games were released for the Xbox 360, but only 633 were considered backward compatible.
accordingly VGCIt is estimated that as a result of this discontinuation, approximately 220 non-backwards compatible Xbox 360 digital games will become unavailable as of this date and will effectively disappear from the console, with a select few not available elsewhere.
