The Mortal Kombat 1 pre-order beta went live for Xbox and PS5 players on Friday, bringing with it several new characters to try out as well as some powerful returning characters. So far the most famous of them seems to be Johnny Cage, who wows fans with his celebrity power, big ensembles and amazing shades.
On the Mortal Kombat subreddit, one of the top posts has a sad title: “This win cost me $500.” Lee Mi is shown about to finish Johnny off, but his sunglasses blow off and hit him in the face.
“So much fun in the beta, I tried everything but didn’t expect Johnny to click so well,” the gamer wrote.
Another theme flows through the title, “Pranks, call killers, phones. Johnny is top! There is a match climax where Cage launches a powerful attack on Sub-Zero while yelling “Johnny, Johnny, Johnny” and finally pins him on camera.
One player wrote, “As a big Johnny from Mk1… at first laugh, Cage is very good in this game”. “I miss Fireball, but everything else about it is gold [sic] Press quickly, the new shadow effect looks very cool[هس[sic] Perfection, every little detail, perfection. “
Mortal Kombat favorites return
Johnny Cage has been a powerhouse of the series since the original Mortal Kombat, modeled after then-star action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme. His complicated biography includes being killed by Shao Kahn’s forces and resurrected multiple times. He once produced a film called The Death of Johnny Cage.
In Mortal Kombat 1, which features a universe rebooted by Liu Kang, Cage wields a holy sword when he is recruited by the new Fire God.
Cage joins Kenshi, Kitana, Liu Kang, and Sub-Zero, as well as Lee Mei, who was revealed during San Diego Comic-Con. The pre-order beta also includes Sony’s Kamio, Blade, Kano and Jax editions.
Since the beta launch on Friday, fans have been enjoying the Johnny Cage experience. Cage 24 has seen a series of hits shortly after the popular fighting game player Sonicfox beta launched.
Sonicfox MK1 received a total of 24 hits in less than an hour since beta

NetherRealm Studios has been constantly developing new characters since Mortal Kombat 1 was first announced earlier this year. There will be 24 Mortal Kombat 1 characters at launch, with six more characters added via DLC, including Peacemaker and Homelander.
We played Mortal Kombat 1 during Summer Games Fest and were suitably impressed. We also caught up with Ed Boon, who answered all of our questions about the upcoming installment of the long-running series.
