Rarely do many national nonprofits simultaneously rally around a unified cause, but with just six weeks until U.S. Election Day, some of the largest organizations in the world are joining together to amplify #NationalVoterRegistrationDay.
Voter registration deadlines vary significantly by state, with the earliest deadlines in the country coming up Oct. 4 in Alaska and Rhode Island, and Oct. 5 in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
And while 21 states and Washington, D.C., currently allow voters to register at the polls on Election Day with a valid photo or non-photo ID, a phalanx of nonprofits are using their collective voices to make sure not a single eligible vote is missed this November.
“1 in 4 people aren’t registered to vote! We’re sure you’ll agree with us when we say that number is TOO HIGH,” Tweeted the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “If you are not yet registered, what are you waiting for? It only takes 2 minutes!”
“Ending hunger starts with your vote,” Tweeted Feeding America. “You can help the millions of kids, seniors, and families who face hunger in America have the resources they need to keep food on the table.”
Below is a selection of posts tagged with #NationalVoterRegistrationDay from some of Forbes’ 21st annual Top Charities list:
In the 2016 presidential election, 61.4% of eligible Americans voted, down slightly from 61.8% who voted in 2012.
Americans can register to vote at Vote.org or nationalvoterregistrationday.org.
