Samsung is reportedly patenting 10 new foldable phone designs. These include smartphones with rollable, scrollable and slideable displays. The patents represent Samsung’s vision for the future of foldable phones. Apparently Apple This was the first report of a new patent published by the World Intellectual Property Organization. Recently, Samsung filed 10 more patents, bringing the total to 20.
The Korean tech giant has already dominated the foldable smartphone segment with its Fold and Flip series smartphones. And these patents indicate that the brand is serious about taking its folding game to a new level. Samsung plans to launch a slideout foldable phone soon. The company unveiled a multi-role phone prototype in May, adding more weight to plans to launch a slideout-style phone. While patents don’t always translate into real products, they do peek behind the scenes at what might happen in the future.
For this latest patent, there are some things that are stuck. One of the patents (seen above) shows a device with a body similar to a standard smartphone. However, one end is extended to transform the device into a smaller tablet. This is the same general concept of a handset as the Z Fold 4, but it achieves a phone / tablet hybrid with a different design.
Another patent reveals what this type of rollover would look like from the back (above). Here, we can see that the rear part is divided into two parts, the rollable display is connecting them in the middle. It looks like it could launch a full range of sustainability concerns, but it’s still exciting to see Samsung play with other similar factors.
Sammobile Recently, in collaboration with Jermaine Smit, also known as Concept Creator, Samsung has released a concept design for the so-called Rollable Display Phone. This presentation gives us an idea of what Samsung’s future rollable phone might look like. In the picture, we see a phone with a display wrapped around the back panel. To the right of the display is a thick bar that appears to hold the rear camera module. We assume that the display will extend horizontally like TCL’s rollable display concepts.
Samsung has not yet announced the details of its upcoming slideable phones and this will probably be shortly before the change. We hope that Samsung will continue its foldable family with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 later this year. However, launching a slideout handset still seems to be a way off.
