Nintendo Switch Online has become quite a popular service for users of this console. While the initial offering wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, today we have access to hundreds of classic games and various DLCs. Thus, The company assures that they will continue to do their best to grow this segment.
In a recent question-and-answer session for the company’s latest financial report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa noted that the N64 offerings brought more customers to the service, and indeed, There are plans to improve the online switch with more features. This is what he commented:
“As of September 2022, the number of paid Nintendo Switch Online members has exceeded 36 million. While there are some users who choose not to renew their membership once it expires, the number of members is growing overall as people play titles that support Nintendo Switch and online play. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, which we launched last year, accounts for an increasing proportion of general memberships as part of the addition of Nintendo 64 titles.
Nintendo Switch Online as a service aims to help users enjoy playing games on Nintendo Switch for longer, so we are considering various initiatives including further improvements to the service’s content. As we discussed in today’s presentation, our goal is to continue using Nintendo Account to maintain positive and lasting relationships with our customers. In line with this strategy, we see Nintendo Switch Online as an initiative to encourage our users to enjoy Nintendo Switch for many years to come.”
Let’s remember that multiple rumors and reports have indicated that Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games will join the catalog of platforms available on Switch Online. Although there is currently no information that can confirm this, Recent statements from Furukawa reveal that Nintendo plans to expand the service in some way. In related matters, the amount of money this service earns is disclosed.
Editor’s note:
Although Switch Online and its expansion started off in a negative way, today it is a great service that will only grow in the future. Not only will we see more DLC added here, but more Nintendo platforms, or even SEGA, have the opportunity to add to the available catalog.
