Norwegian companies Telenor, Aakar ASA and Cognite say they plan to launch a new software security company this year that will help companies protect their industrial assets from the threat of cyber-attacks since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“More and more (industrial) objects are being added, and then you can add Russia-Ukraine on top of that,” said Telenor CEO Sigve Breke, adding that a trend that was accelerated during COVID is now happening faster and faster. “”

Industry facilities, control systems, oil pipelines, supply chains, power grids and healthcare are the main targets, the ASA of Brake and Acker and the CEO of Cognite told Reuters Global Markets Forum in Davos this week.

“Cyber security has become a growing concern for any company out there,” said Asha Thomson, senior vice president and head of Ericsson’s Business Area Technologies and new business.

John Larwick, co-founder and chief strategy and development officer at Cognite, said the new company will help Omni public and private companies monitor industrial resources so they can perform optimally and safely from cyber attacks.

Omny will first launch in Norway in the fall of 2022 and then expand to Nordic next year, Lervik says.

Aker ASA CEO Oyvind Eriksen says the goal is to eventually take Omny Global, and its founders will look for international partners to make it bigger.

Omni predicts that the operational technology security market will grow from 94 billion Norwegian kroner (about Rs 75,600 crore) to about 470 billion Norwegian kroner (about Rs 3,77,900 crore) by 2030, with the software share of the market estimated at 20 percent to 30 percent.

Carl Carrande, KPMG’s global head of advisory, told Reuters on Tuesday that the way to mitigate the cyber threat is for big technology, government and industry to work together,

“It’s a continuing push for coordination, collaboration and innovation, that’s the key,” said Carrande Davos. “Bad actors can only be right once and cause defeat. Everyone else has to be right all the time.”
