Check for Updates: button on Google Pixel.
Google disappointed with the availability of an update that left some Pixel users on the bench.
There was a time when we could count on Google to announce an update and make it available immediately. But that hasn’t been the case for quite some time, as the December 2023 update proves. The first major quarterly update for Android 14 is official, but not yet available to install on the Pixel 8 Pro.
Usually, the “Check for Updates” button starts the important process. You can request and download updates for your device immediately. But that didn’t work for long and this time too. Even the morning after the update was announced, no OTA update was available for many Pixel devices. In theory, it’s not that dramatic.
OTA updates can no longer be initiated by the user
Still, this has also been a plus point for Pixel devices in recent years Unfortunately we can now cross it off this list. Apparently this is related to some changes that Google made official a while back. There is no longer a strict schedule for Pixel updates. However, I hope that the updates will still be available on my device when Google actually releases them.
Another option is to download the official software image from the Google website and install it via PC. But somehow I don’t want to deal with it again. This new update in particular brings so many innovations and improvements that you really don’t want to wait, especially not with the Pixel 8 Pro.
Updated: I can’t even put the mentioned image on my device, I can’t see the new December update for the single pixel on the Google site. However, other users say that they have already installed the image manually. curious
