Well, is that a good sign? New London-based company Nothing has announced their first smartphone, the Phone (1). Before it goes on regular sale, 1,000 units will be auctioned for promotional purposes. Looking at history, such an unusual step was really expected.
Carl Pay, the former co-founder of OnePlus, started nothing. Although the manufacturer is now unfortunately widely criticized and, according to many, has “crashed”, it was one of the earliest smartphone makers.
Is hype really everything?
This was not at least due to the invitation system, which was innovative up to that point. Only selected customers had the opportunity to order smartphones. If they have extra invitations left, they are happy to distribute them on social media, which naturally provides free attention.
Of course, Carl Pay brought this flair with him to the unconventional advertising system in Nothing. Although complete technical information is not known, Interested parties can bid for one of the first 100 devices.
More than 2,500 euros have already been offered for the smartphone – although no specs are known
The proposed prices show that Nothing Phone Technology (1) plays a subordinate role. The highest bid at the time of this article is 2,558 euros, and the 100 highest bidders will receive their smartphones within 3 days on June 23, at 3pm.
Considering the installed mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, its price should probably be less than a quarter. Indeed, the design of the back, which consists of a transparent cover and LED lighting, is vague.
What do you think about the strategy of nothing? Is the smartphone under lucky star?
