We’re not giving up and neither are Google’s developers. A new report reveals new details about Pixel Face Unlock.
Google reportedly planned to have face unlock via software and front camera when the Pixel 6 Pro launched, but has not been satisfied with the quality until today. This is why the feature has never appeared before, but is probably still planned. An insider can now reveal more details about what the plans look like.
For security reasons, Google wants to merge the two identifiers. In this case, fingerprint sensor and face recognition through the camera. At least with the Pixel 6 series. Our colleagues from 9to5Google Provided the following information.
We now know that Google has a version of Pixel Face Unlock that includes an under-display fingerprint sensor (UDFPS). Notably, this method can bring face unlock to both Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
If a face is recognized to some degree – but not completely – Google lowers the recognition threshold needed to unlock the fingerprint.
Even with the Pixel 7, only the camera is used for face unlock, without infrared or anything like that. Let’s see when the feature comes.
