With the introduction of Android 14, Google is introducing Pixel feature drops for October, which will specifically benefit foldable and tablet devices. It will arrive a month later than expected and will include several additions as part of a wider operating system update.
Announced at launch, the Pixel Fold gets a dual-screen Interpreter mode that takes advantage of the device’s unique form factor. Rotate and hold the device so that it faces the person you are talking to. On the foldable internal screen, you’ll see the input at the top and the translated output at the bottom. The title screen UI is just a translation, and Google is willing to talk to both sides.
On the Pixel tablet, you can play podcasts and news in hub mode — when it’s docked — without unlocking it first, as is the case with music requests. Kids Space gets a new “simplified” navigation bar that makes it easier to return home and switch apps.
Meanwhile, Google warns you about faulty and/or incompatible USB-C cables with a “Check charging accessory” system notification. This message will also appear at the bottom of the lock screen
Your phone may charge slowly or not at all. For faster charging, use the recommended power adapter and cable
The Google Camera app has been redesigned and now has a parent photo and video switch at the bottom of the screen This will highlight the available modes in the carousel above, instead of grouping everything together like before.
Settings in Google Camera 9.0 have also been moved from the top row to the bottom left corner, though you can swipe up on the viewfinder for quick access. Google has now changed the location of the camera roll and the front/back switch.
Today we also learned that Google is officially considering the new lock screen clocks as a Pixel-specific feature.
The October Pixel feature drop is rolling out today alongside the extensive Android 14 update.
