When Apple introduced accident detection for the first time with its new 14th generation iPhones, I had to laugh and cry at the same time. For me as a Pixel user, this feature isn’t really new, but I still can’t use it after many years.
Google was once again quick with such a smart feature. Even saved lives. A few months ago we told you about a user who described a blatant case. Google has been using accident detection for years.
What does accident detection do? Cell phones can use sound and numerous sensors to detect if your car has been in an accident. The mobile phone prompts you to respond when an accident is detected. If you don’t, it can automatically send an emergency call.
As mentioned earlier, this accident detection has existed on Pixel phones for years, Limited to only a few regions so far. So far, Germany has not been one of them. It looks like Google finally forgot to activate the feature in this country.
Now there is hope again.
If Apple can do it out of thin air, so can Google. Regardless, with the launch of the iPhone 14, Google is back under pressure for its Pixel series. I think the matter is now gaining new momentum internally.
Doubtful if anything will happen with the Pixel 7 in October. Google has never revealed why international deployments are so slow.
