Polestar, the former Volvo brand known for its electric cars, is set to launch its own smartphone Things have gone quiet about the project in the past few months, after the company had already provided an early glimpse of the Polestar phone’s design in November 2023. But now the device has surprisingly appeared in the list of Google Play supported smartphones.
Both Polestar and Meizu are owned by Geely
This discovery indicates that the official launch of the Polestar phone is imminent, although there is no official confirmation yet. The smartphone originates from a collaboration with a Chinese manufacturer Meizu, presents itself in a design strongly reminiscent of the Meizu 20 series. Like Polestar, Meizu belongs to the Chinese Geely Group.
There are three camera modules on the back, including a main camera with 23mm equivalent and f/1.9 aperture, a 70mm telephoto lens (f/2.0) and a 15mm ultra-wide-angle lens (f/2.4). A processor from Snapdragon-8-SeriesWhile the Android interface has evolved with Meizu Polestar OS are used.
Polestar isn’t the only automaker entering the smartphone market. Same with the Nio due out in September 2023 pick up the phoneWhich is visually and technically similar to the OnePlus 10T, Polestar is expanding its portfolio.
Stepping into the smartphone world seems to be a new strategy for automakers to expand their brand presence and create a unique ecosystem around their vehicles. This development will enable manufacturers to better understand drivers’ needs and habits and respond to them with special software features.
