Xiaomi is introducing a few new smartphones in Germany at the beginning of 2024 and we have previously seen the new Redmi Note 13 Pro+, which is considered a mid-range flagship and partly wants to reach for the stars. But can the Android smartphone stand up to the test or is it a budget device with many disadvantages?
To begin with, it has to be said that Xiaomi offers a truly brutal package for just 500 euros. The MediaTek Dimension 7200 Ultra comes with a whopping 512GB of data storage, 12GB of RAM and a really fast chipset. With the included power adapter, I was able to charge the device to 31 percent in 7 minutes, and the battery went from 18 to 75 percent charge in 18 minutes. strong
If you look at the price competition between Samsung and Google, it looks really slim there. And the Redmi Note 13 Pro+’s display is impressive only because of its 120 Hz. Maximum brightness is also in a good range, but it’s very difficult to put it through its paces without the summer sun.
From the start, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ impressed with its long-lasting battery and high system performance. I primarily use standard settings, i.e. no economy mode or performance mode. As far as these two factors are concerned, we are definitely at the flagship level (800 to 1000 euros).
What it doesn’t have is wireless charging. What is not missing is sensory haptic feedback. It’s not at the level of top devices, but it’s not a cheap value either. The same cannot be said for the main camera, which is supposed to be the star of this phone. There is at least one Samsung image sensor with 200 MP and optical image stabilization.
The main camera’s image sensor is good, but it doesn’t do wonders
But make no mistake, this is not the high-end model of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Still, the HP3 is a very reasonable image sensor that delivers reasonable images day and night. You can tell that Xiaomi is still concerned with big numbers, but image quality has also improved significantly over the past few years. However, the 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and again the ridiculous 2 MP image sensor for macro shots are disappointing.
Finally, you need to be honest when evaluating quality, which falls significantly beyond standard setting. Xiaomi, for example, promises a powerful zoom due to the high number of pixels. But if we take a 4x zoom for example, the Google Pixel’s Super Res solution and a quarter-megapixel image sensor are still significantly better at detailing.
There are also drawbacks that even Samsung couldn’t fix, such as motion blur due to the slightly slower shutter. Launching the camera app can also be a bit fast and can be a bit buggy at times. This shows how much the hardware struggles with 200MP. Here are some photos And more to come.
On the software side, I’m slowly getting used to MIUI, but I’m not much of a fan This is because it still comes with bloatware At the time of market launch, the devices are also running MIUI 14 and Android 13 It’s certainly still easy to use in everyday life, but it’s just not the current situation For me, this is a point I don’t want to sweep under the carpet.
Moving my Pixel Watch 2 worked surprisingly seamlessly and even synced with Xiaomi devices during Do Not Disturb and Bedtime. I almost expected MIUI to somehow thwart my plans, but it didn’t. Face unlock via in-screen finger sensor and front camera also works as expected.
Conclusion: Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is clearly one of the best Xiaomi phones
In my opinion, the choice of craftsmanship and materials is unreal good. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is a real board and looks good without the curved display that has gone out of style. With Xiaomi finally eliminating this brutal camera disparity – the biggest and smallest cameras have at least 198 MP – the expensive Redmi models will definitely be premium mid-range.
Anyone in the 400 to 600 Euro price segment will definitely be able to and probably get used to the Redmi Note 13 Pro+. It’s a very well-rounded package that doesn’t run out of memory so fast and doesn’t affect system performance. If the update guarantee does come, that would be a strong point.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro+
The 200MP camera overpromises a bit, but otherwise the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is a real stunner.
