Ricoh Imaging has announced It will be releasing an extremely limited-edition ‘Jet Black’ version of its Pentax K-3 Mark III camera in Japan via a crowdfunding campaign. This new colorway is the first product Pentax is releasing as part of its Co-Creation Project and was chosen as the most popular of the five designs presented at a meeting held back in November 2021.
The camera underneath is the same 26MP K-3 Mark III we’ve seen before. The only difference is its all-black paint job that would be right at home on Bruce Wayne’s desk. Absolutely every little facet of this camera is painted black, including every setting on the ‘mode’ dial, every inlay on the included HD PENTAX-DA 20–40mm f / 2.8–4ED Limited DC lens and even the icons and text on the buttons .
Pentax is also releasing a special ‘J Limited’ shoulder strap that Ricoh says was ‘carefully produced on traditional looms’ in collaboration with Sanadahimo. Specifically, Ricoh says the straps were produced in cooperation with ‘Mr. Tosai Ichimura, a Sanadahimo master at the only Sanadahimo workshop in the Kanto region. ‘
The Pentax K-3 Mark III Jet Black Edition camera will be limited to just 232 models, each of which will be available to back through the Japanese crowdfunding platform Ubgoe for 300,000 yen (6 2,600). The ‘J Limited’ shoulder strap will be an extra 15,000 yen (~ $ 130) while an all-black hotshoe cover is included in the kit, but will also be available separately for 4,500 yen ($ $ 40). Orders start March 25, 2022 and end April 27, 2022, or until all 232 units are claimed.
