The most expensive model in the Q-series
RoboRock’s vacuums have come a long way in a relatively short time. The brand recently released its Q-Series, a quality robot vacuum line that offers powerful cleaning, but at a lower price than the S7 MaxV series. The Q-Series starts at a retail price of $ 430. This line includes Q5 and Q5 +, which are vacuum-only models, as well as Q7 and Q7 +, which are both vacuum and mop. There are also Max versions of the Q7 and Q7 + that are more powerful than the non-Max versions, and each Plus model comes with a compatible automatic-empty dock.
To see how the Q-Series compares to other robots on the market, I tested the $ 870 RoboRock Q7 Max + for two weeks. I was particularly impressed with its power and mapping power, but I wanted it to come with more mapping accessories.
A clean design
The Roborock Q7 Max + is black or white, so you can choose which color best matches your living space. It looks a lot like your standard robot VAC – round, with an eye-like protrusion on top that helps the vacuum. See Where are you going? The Q7 Max has other sensors (cliff sensor, accelerometer and bumper) on the front and bottom of it to protect it from falling down the stairs, colliding with objects or getting stuck.
It’s a high-quality unit, but it’s a bit bigger and heavier. It is about 14 inches in diameter, about three-quarters of an inch long when the wheels are not fully extended, and it weighs 8.38 pounds. I don’t have any less furniture, so its height was not too much of a problem for me. However, unlike some of the robots I tested, the Q7 couldn’t navigate the bottom of my fridge.
When you lift the door flap over the robot vac, you will find a combined water tank (350-ml capacity) and a dustbin (470ml capacity). In many robots I have tested, the water tank is located directly above the MOP pad. The Q7 differs in that the water tank is separate from the MOP pad
The brush roller is rubberized and has no bristles, which makes it easy to clean and maintain. It is also good to hold the pet’s hair without sticking the rubberized brush. There is a brush on one side, which helps to pull the dirt towards the original brush.
A self-contained robot
The Q7 Max + comes with the Auto-Empty Dock Pure feature, which means the dirty dock is emptied once the robot is back in charge. The automatic-empty dock contains a dustbag, which you need to replace once every seven weeks. An extra dust bag is also included in the package and you can buy extra bags Roborock for 19. Alternatively, you can buy off-brand bags that are compatible with the dock that comes as its pack Six to 12 for about 20. It would be nice if Roborock included enough bags for one year, but unfortunately that is not the case.
Great suction power, long battery
A robot with Q7 Max + 4200 pa (Pascal unit) rating has really good suction for vacuum. This is better than most robot vacuums, including many Rumba. During the experiment, I used the Q7 Max + to clean my first floor, which has mostly hardwood floors, but it also has a bathroom with a few large area rags and marble tiles. My floors were left unattended in the kitchen, and the Q7 Max + did a great job of grabbing dust and hair from the edges and corners. When it traveled over the rugs in the area, it revived its suction with its carpet boost feature and kept the rugs free from any dirt or debris. I had visible symmetrical vacuum lines on the boards in each area, showing just how thoroughly it cleaned them.
The Q7 Max + boasts a 5,200 mAh battery, and the manufacturer claims that it can clean three hours nonstop (maximum vacuum area 3,229 sqft). The battery made it so I never felt a time when my energy was low and I was always able to clean in a continuous cycle.
Mops and vacuums
The mopping function in this unit is not as advanced as the S7 MaxV Ultra’s VibraRise washing system, which scrubs the floor and the vacuum system cleans its own mopping pad. The Q7 Max + has a mopping system that is quite simple, but effective. It uses an electric pump to distribute and control water flow levels, allowing 30 different water flows that you can optimize for each of your floors.
While it doesn’t scrub like a sonic mop, it does an exceptional job of cleaning the grime from the floor with a wet cloth like its broom and can wipe it up to 2,583 square feet at a time. This unit also vacuum and mops at the same time, so my floors were completely crumbly, dust-free, and all wrapped up in one cleaning cycle.
Lack of accessories
After I wiped my floor, the cleaning pad was dirty. After seeing the mop pads and learning that my hardwood floors were dirty before the mopping cycle, I started a conscious effort to mop them more regularly (instead of just vacuuming). Sometimes with hardwood floors, you can’t see the dirt and you can tell when your socks start to look dirty. The problem with regular mopping with the Q7 Max + is, however, that it includes only one cleaning pad in the package – no extra pads to use when tossing the original pads in the washing machine, and no disposable pads. The dock does not automatically clean its own mopping pads like the S7 MaxV Ultra, so having extra pads will be helpful for daily cleaning without interruption for maintenance.
As mentioned above, the package comes with an extra dust bag for the auto-empty dock, but it does not come with an extra side brush or any additional main brush. You can buy a pack of two extra MOP pads for 17 17 from the Roborock site, as well as a pack of two extra side brushes for 16. You can also find off-brand options on Amazon, where you will find a large pack of MOP pads or brushes at almost the same price.
3D or 2D mapping, decisive and quiet performance
The Q7 Max + has a PreciSense LiDAR on it, which allows you to create an accurate map of your home. It moves around the room with purpose, cleans the edges and then centers the room in an S-pattern. It does not enter doors, walls or furniture and it is not particularly loud.
Although I’m a little disappointed with the app setup process because it won’t connect via a 5 Ghz connection and have tried several times to connect the unit to Wi-Fi, the app greatly improves the overall Q7 Max +. It can create a 2D or 3D map, and you can switch back and forth between the two. The app has a lot of features that make it possible for you to include furniture, create invisible walls, prevent the robot from entering certain areas or houses, point to different types of floors and much more. You can create schedules, track maintenance of your accessories, and control a variety of other settings, from water flow to auto-empty settings. You can really clean this robot just right Where, WhenAnd How You I want it
Our acceptance
The Q-Series seems to be more affordable, and the price of many Roborock Q models is reasonable, but the Roborock Q7 Max + still comes in at around $ 870. Considering the fact that you can choose a good budget robot vacuum for around $ 300 (or about $ 500 to à¦à¦¾à¦² 600 for a good self-emptying vac), this is not exactly the price of a budget. Of course, it’s a fair price for what it offers, but it’s not cheap.
Overall, I was impressed with its cleaning performance, battery and app features. However, for this expensive unit, I expected it to include more replacement accessories in the package.
Is there a better option?
The Q7 Max + sits in a unique category as the most expensive vacuum in the budget series. It’s not nearly as expensive as high-end vacuums, e.g. Roborock’s S7 MaxV Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot X1 (both of which sell for around $ 1,400), but it doesn’t offer the same level of cleaning performance as the $ 1,500 unit, especially when it comes to mopping.
If you’re looking for a robot with sonic mopping, but you don’t want to spend around $ 1,500, check out the Roborock S7 MaxV Plus. It retails for a little less ($ 1,160). If you want something more affordable, and mopping isn’t important to you, look for a low-end Q-Series model like the Q5 or Q5 +.
How long will it last?
The Q7 Max + is pretty close to its equivalent competitors (technically speaking). It doesn’t allow a 5Ghz Wi-Fi connection, but it does offer leader navigation, 3D mapping, and auto-emptying. With proper maintenance, this robot should last at least a few years, and there’s no reason to think that the app should stop supporting this unit anytime soon.
Will you buy it?
Yes. The Roborock Q7 Max + is a robust, durable robot that reliably vacuum and mops the floor. It has a great battery, strong suction and an auto-empty dock so you don’t have to do any preparatory work before cleaning.
