- Royole is holding a September 21 event where it’s expected to unveil the FlexPai 2.
- The new foldable phone should have an improved screen, faster performance and more cameras.
- It’s not certain how widely available the FlexPai 2 will be.
You shouldn’t have to wait long for more details of Royole’s sequel to its foldable FlexPai phone. Royole has announced (via Ross Young and Gizmochina) a “new product launch” on September 21 at 10:30PM Eastern (10:30AM Beijing time) where it should formally unveil the FlexPai 2. The event will stream live on Royole’s website and YouTube.
The company isn’t providing many clues as to what you can expect, although the imagery from the invitation leaves little doubt that a foldable device is coming.
Royole has already confirmed that the FlexPai 2 will revolve around an improved display. The foldable phone will have a much brighter, more color-accurate screen (reportedly 7.8 inches) that isn’t as prone to creasing. The should be a much stronger hinge, too.
You can likewise expect the phone to catch up in performance. Royole has already promised a Snapdragon 865 chip, dual-mode 5G, 12GB of RAM, and a 4,050mAh battery. A leak from August also suggested it would join the ranks of phones with four cameras, including a main 64MP sensor, 16MP and 8MP shooters, and a 32MP sensor that may be for front-facing shots.

Royale hasn’t offered clues as to price and availability, although it’s expected to undercut other tablet-like foldable phones such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei’s Mate XS.
The FlexPai 2 should represent a welcome improvement over Royole’s rough-around-the-edges original model. Whether or not it’s a compelling device is another matter. The first FlexPai was pioneering, but rivals are now on second-generation hardware. Royole’s new foldable phone will have much fiercer competition, and there’s no guarantee it will fare as well offerings from well-heeled companies like Huawei and Samsung.
